THIS Christmas will be extra special for a Clayton Green couple as they mark a marvellous milestone in their lives.

For Marie and Tony Morris celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on Sunday, December 27.

Former postman, Tony, aged 74, really was Marie's very special delivery.

"I've got a really wonderful husband," said Marie, 70, who originates from Workington.

The loving pair got together after Tony's sister sent a photograph of her friend, Marie, to her brother when he was an RAF cook serving in Italy and North Africa in the Second World War.

"I was walking down Church Street in Preston. There was a photographer who just snapped you and pushed a piece of paper in your hand. You could order the photographs - they were three for 2s 6d," explained Marie.

Tony wrote back and when the war ended they formed a relationship, getting engaged in 1946 and married in 1948 at St. Joseph's Church, Preston, Tony's home town.

Marie added: "I haven't got good health. He's been absolutely wonderful. He's really stuck to his vows in sickness and in health. I wouldn't swap him for the world." Tony, who also put in 30 years work on the railways before becoming a postman, jokingly agreed with his wife's assessment of him, commenting: "I've no option, really." The couple, who have three daughters - Sylvia, Hilary and Christina - and six grandchildren - Emma, Hazel, Cheryl, Melanie, Michael and Richard - enjoyed a party at the over-65s club in Manor Road community centre, last Thursday, December 17.

On Sunday, the day of the anniversary, they will meet up with family and close friends for a special celebration at the Hartwood.
