THE CAMPAIGN for the Protection of Hunted Animals, an umbrella group comprising the RSPCA, the League Against Cruel Sports and the International Fund for Animal Welfare has launched a new campaign called Deadline 2000 to persuade the Government to commit to ending hunting before the new millennium.
A recent letter written by Tony Blair's constituency agent makes it clear that Lords' reform has to take place before any fox hunting bill goes before Parliament. Since then plans have been announced to reform the House of Lords and we believe this now gives the Government the opportunity to introduce its own legislation to finally bring an end to these cruel and unnecessary 'sports'.
This new broad-based coalition is supported by a number of celebrities including Sir Paul McCartney, Sir John Gielgud, Robson Green, Jerome Flynn, All Saints and Mark Owen. If your readers believe that hunting should be banned they should write to their MP asking him or her to support Deadline 2000 by signing EDM number five, which calls for the hunting of wild mammals with dogs to be outlawed as soon as possible.
