DETECTIVES investigating the murder of the mother of former Chorley boxing champion Carl Crook are still questioning a 60-year-old man.

The body of Charlotte Crook, aged 55, was discovered at a house on Coniston Road, Chorley, shortly after 2.45pm on Monday.

Police say she had suffered head and neck injuries.

A 60-year-old man has been helping Chorley Police with their inquiries after undergoing hospital treatment.

Detective sergeant John Cass told the Citizen as it went to press on Tuesday evening: "A person has been arrested in relation to this offence and at the moment that's all we want to say.

"The investigation is ongoing. We will be looking to interview the person arrested over the next day or two."

Members of Mrs Crook's family alerted police after finding her in a bedroom.

Her son Carl, aged 34, who comes from Adlington, was rated eighth in the world by the WBC and was being lined up for a possible world title fight.

He picked up the British title by outpointing Nottingham's Tony Richards in Sheffield and took the Commonwealth Crown with a win over Najib Daho in Preston in 1990.

However his dream of a European lightweight title was shattered on a Saturday night in Italy in December 1991 when he was stopped due to cuts in the sixth round of his fight with champion Antonio Renzo.
