SIR: The brewers are stretching common sense by opposing current overdue plans to cut drinking and driving.

Surprisingly, levels for drivers have not been reduced since Barbara Castle introduced life-saving laws 30 years ago.

Drinking and driving just don't mix. Successive governments have allowed the carnage on our roads to continue.

If drivers are stopped drinking, they will find other ways of getting to and from the pub. Most have already.

The brewers should start supporting sober, sensible, road safety measures. Better in the red than dead.
