SIR: I understand there has been a series of letters in the BEN following a report from the Bolton coroner, suggesting that: "It would be sensible for new drivers to undergo motorway training". This was the result of a fatal incident on the M61 motorway. I was told that your readers had written to your newspaper expressing support for this action. I have been fighting for exactly that for the last six and a half years.

My Learn to Live campaign's main aim is to make it compulsory for every newly-qualified driver to undergo some form of motorway tuition, with an approved driving instructor.

I know that there are many people who have held a full licence for many years, and have still never driven on these roads. Why? Simple, because they are too scared to do so.

Both the Department of Transport and the Driving Standards Agency, still hold the view that motorway skills can be learned on a dual carriageway. Nothing and nobody will convince me this is possible.

If you agree with what I am doing, there is an easy way you can help. Please write to your MP and urge them to sign Early Day Motion No 651.

If you would like any more information, please contact me.
