Chorley 139 all out

Leyland DAF 113 for 8

TWO weekend draws left Chorley still seeking their first league win of the season.

Saturday's long trip to Kendal ended in a losing draw after the home side had totalled 199 for 6, largely due to a century from Terry Hunte. Chorley's professional Joe Angel was the most successful bowler with 3 for 58.

Chorley's reply stuttered and despite 62 from Simon they finished hanging on at 159 for 9.

Monday saw Chorley gain a winning draw from their clash with local rivals Leyland DAF. Batting first Chorley were indebted to a superb 70 from Russell Cake in an ultimately disappointing total of 139 all out.

The Chorley innings contained an element of self-destruction with three run outs and a bizarre stumping which removed Senior.

Leyland DAF, fresh from two straight wins, started their reply confidently. When they passed three figures with only three wickets down and plenty of overs in hand, they looked certain winners.

However, cricket's capacity to surprise was again in evidence as the return of Angel to the attack transformed the picture.

Wickets clattered as Leyland DAF subsided from 106 for 3 to 113 for 8, the visitors not being helped by a dreadful shot from Makinson and a superb catch by Senior.

The shutters went up and Leyland DAF hung on to take three points to Chorley's five. Angel's second spell produced the remarkable figures of five for three from six overs.

This Saturday Chorley travel to St Annes and on Sunday entertain Morecambe in the Abbot Ale Cup.
