TEMPEST United are hot favourites to lift the Bolton Hospital Cup following a stunning performance to beat fellow West Lancs League side Eagley.

United's goals against the team from a division higher came from Steve Iley and Andy Benjamin in the second half last night.

West Lancs top side Charnock Richard have had to pull out of the Hospital Cup because of a fixture pile-up, leaving Daisy Hill to now face an away fixture at Blackrod Town in the quarter-final on Friday, kick off 6.45pm.

The winners meet the winners of Ramsbottom United and AFC Bolton Walkers game to be played on Thursday, kick off 7pm.

RELEGATION worries continue for Atherton Colls after a 2-0 defeat at Clitheroe last night.

The home side's goals came from Andrew Walsh and David Bennett. Colls manager Tommy Harrison, who now looks to have to conjour something out of the last two games of the season against title contenders Kidsgrove Athletic commented: "I was proud of the lads because we played really well although admittedly much of it was on the defensive.

"Alan Shawcross missed a golden opportunity to put us in front mid way through the second half and within minutes we had conceded two goals."

Atherton LR play their last game of the season tonight at Crilly Park with a visit of Newcastle Town, kick off 7.30pm.

DAISY Hill followed up a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Castleton Gabriels, when their goal was scored by Stuart Rudd, with a 1-1 draw with Bacup Borough last night, Chris Lee on target. Daisy complete their league season tomorrow night against high-flying Skelmersdale.

The reserves had a fine 4-1 victory over champions Maine Road with Chris Hope scoring twice and Jimmy Mahon and Chris Taylor adding one apiece.
