WIGAN'S Wembley dreams may be in tatters but it won't stop them pushing ahead with plans to attract new faces to Central Park.

The Warriors, who expect to announce coach John Monie will be signing an extended contract in the next few days, are hoping to bring in two new players.

"The coach and scouts are now looking to strengthen the squad," confirmed acting vice-chairman John Martin.

"The moves have no bearing on Saturday's result. We have set our plans out and won't move the goalposts because of one defeat, albeit at Wembley.

"Within the next four to six weeks there will be signings. We have a couple lined up on the foreign market that John Monie is quite keen to get hold of." Martin added that he had spoken to the coach last week and he will be signing a new deal.

"He has agreed to stay for two years and it could even be for three. His words to me were 'you are a long time retired.'

"It has been a new lease of life for John after what happened to him in Auckland. He is staying and you can count on two years and hopefully he will make it three."

Centre Gary Connolly will be also be tying up his future in the next few days with a contract extension to keep him at Central Park until the end of next season.
