BOLTON bus driver Bill Killiner is flying the flag for Bolton Wanderers . . . and warning the team they can't afford to carry passengers! Bill arguably owns the most famous Bolton Wanderers flag in the world, but even he claims he was tempted during a weak moment this season to fly it at half mast. But he resisted the urge, and the giant Union Jack flag, measuring eight feet by five feet and bearing the team's name, remains in prime position at Bill's Wigan Road home in Deane.

The 34-year-old's prize possession was unwittingly "kidnapped" by John McGinlay last season during the euphoria of the First Division Champions' parade. It was the flag that was draped over the team's bus as it paraded through the town.

Bill loaned it to the club, but when the celebrations died down, he discovered the flag had gone missing.

A search, including an appeal in the BEN, ensued, until it came to light that John McGinlay had taken the flag as a souvenir of the day.

Bill said: "He did not realise it was mine and took it home thinking his children would like it."

However, the flag, which has travelled around the world with Bill, was returned to its rightful place on the main wall in his home.

He said: "I was tempted once earlier this season to take the flag down because I was so disappointed, but then I thought again.

"We have lots of drivers from the Manchester area working in our depot, and as Manchester United fans they tend to wear you down. But I am determined not to get discouraged.

"If Bolton win their next few home games they will stay up - I am sure of that."

And his message to the team? "Keep battling and do not give up hope."
