YOU' RE never too old or too young to get to grips with the Internet, say council chiefs in Bury.

So if you think surfing is something you do at the sea-side and a web-site is something to do with spiders, then help is on the way with a new service by Bury Council.

Starting on Monday, the Borough's library service launches Metronet Week, a series of taster sessions to give local people the chance to find out more about the fascinating world of the Internet.

Bury's leisure services chairman Cllr David Willis said: "This is an ideal chance for those who have heard all about the Internet but don't really know how to go about finding out more to do just that." The week begins at Ramsbottom on Monday at 10am, with Local and Family History on the Net. Wednesday sees and open evening entitled Internet Fun at Bury's Central Library between 7.30pm and 9pm.

Every 15 minutes there will be an Introduction to the Internet session, while a series of demos covering specialist subjects from sport to health will also take place. Over at the children's library, the Internet connection will also be active.

The following day will see Webbers in Wonderland at Prestwich Library from 4pm to 5pm, giving youngsters the chance to surf the worldwide web.

Friday is the perfect opportunity for the older generation to have a go. Radcliffe Library will be the venue from 10am for Spring into the Net, a session targeted at senior citizens. Finally, on Saturday, Keep Well on the Net comes to Prestwich Library between 10am and 11am, giving participants a chance to take a look at health issues.

Internet guides have been produced by the local authority to give quick listings of some of the web-sites, and staff will be on hand to help.
