COLIN Todd insisted today that he will not give up in his efforts to strengthen his relegation-haunted squad.

The Wanderers boss has been continually frustrated in bids to sign a striker and a right-sided midfield player.

But he stressed: "I haven't given up the ghost in the search for players any more than I have given up in the fight to keep the team in the Premiership."

Since taking their season's spending to more than £11 million when they paid a record £3.5 million for Dean Holdsworth in October, Wanderers have made only two new signings - winger Franz Carr on a short term contract and Bob Taylor on a month's loan from West Brom.

But Todd says that it hasn't been for the want of trying - both at home and abroad.

His latest targets have included two Argentinian midfield players, and strikers based in Spain and Denmark.

"It's the same abroad as well as at home," he explained. "Clubs are just not willing to sell their better players.

"One of the Argentians was a highly-rated wide right player who has played with River Plate. I was very close to getting him in but it turned out to be another frustrated attempt.

"I know other managers are suffering the same fate but it won't stop me trying."

With less than three weeks to go to the March 26 transfer deadline, time is fast running out for Wanderers to make new signings, whether on loan or on permanent deals.
