Wanderers have finally been told they are in the clear over the touchline flare-up that brought a stormy end to their FA Cup tie at Barnsley on January 4.

Seven weeks after a posse of police and stewards intervened when players and coaching staff scuffled over a throw-in the FA say no action will be taken against either club.

"We have received a police report into the incident and there will be no charges resulting from it," a Lancaster Gate spokesman confirmed. "Both clubs are in the clear."

A steward was arrested and later released without charge after an alleged assault on Wanderers' midfielder Jamie Pollock. But referee David Elleray said he didn't see enough of the injury-time fracas to warrant a formal report.

Nevertheless, the FA insisted on waiting for a report from South Yorkshire Police before laying the matter to rest.

Wanderers were anxious to avoid a misconduct charge because they are still subject to a suspended sentence imposed last season after the mass brawl during the Burnden Park clash with Wolves. They were fined £40,000 - £30,000 of which was suspended until the end of this season - and warned as to their future conduct.
