BOLTON children are reaping the rewards of a supermarket chain's recycling scheme.
Red Lane primary school and Harwood Youth Centre have been awarded £100 cheques by their local Safeway stores.
Safeway has been encouraging shoppers to collect aluminium cans for its recycling scheme since 1990. The money collected is given back to the community through Community Care Awards.
Sheila Underwood, Safeway's community relations manager, said: "The more alu-cans people recycle, the more money we can give back to the local community."
In 1998, over £37 million could be available to schools, charities and fund-raisers from recycling aluminium drinks cans.
Mrs Underwood said: "We are now developing this scheme and are looking at plans to raise even more money through recycling to support children's hospices nationwide."
Pendlebury Children's Hospital also received £100 from its local store.
