A BOSS has been appointed to head a new "super" department of Bolton Council.
Peter Wilson, 46, will be in charge of the newly-created legal and corporate directorate.
The job was advertised in the national press with a salary of between £51,735 and £57,483.
Mr Wilson is currently divisional director (Legal) with Bristol City Council and he will take up his new job in May. The post was created following the retirement last year of borough solicitor and deputy chief executive John MacGregor.
Mr Wilson began his legal career in 1978 in his home town with Stoke-on-Trent City Council, where he qualified as a solicitor.
He said: "I am greatly impressed with what I have seen and heard about Bolton. It's going to be a tremendous challenge."
