HOLIDAYS in Spain are going to cost more this summer - and holidaymakers will have less in their pockets to spend. This follows yesterday's upvaluing of the peseta, which effectively makes the pound worth 4.34 per cent less in Spain. Tour firms were working out the implications of the move today, and one company said a holiday in Spain was now likely to cost £1 a week more.

MEDICAL practitioners, consultants and specialists in Great Britain voted heavily against accepting service under the National Health Service Act in its present form. Out of 55,000 forms issued, 38,534 disapproved of the Act and only 4,479 approved. Even six out of every seven doctors in full-time Government employment are against the Act.

ON Monday, at the County Sessions Room, George Molyneaux, landlord of the Ram's Head., Cow Lane, Westhoughton, was charged with permitting gaming and drunkenness in his house on the 3rd instant. Mr Pennington defended.

About nine o'clock on the night of the date mentioned, Police Sergeant Grimshaw was passing the house when he heard a number of men making several bets about a game they were playing entitled 'Ringing the bull'. The defendant and his wife stood in the doorway, looking on at the sport. A man named William Grounds was standing near the board used in the game, and he was very drunk at the time. By his side was a quart jug full of beer, from which he poured some into a glass and offered it to the officers. who refused it, and Grounds drunk the beer himself. A fine of 20s and costs was imposed, and the defendant's licence was ordered to be endorsed.
