BURY South MP Ivan Lewis presented NVQ certificates in playwork to successful candidates.

Mr Lewis was celebrating an out of school childcare partnership which has been working behind the scenes since August 1994.

It includes Bolton and Bury training and Enterprise Council, the two local councils, local clubs' charity BABOOSCA (Bolton and Bury Out of School Clubs' Association), the national childcare charity, Kids Clubs' Network, and local training provider, BEYAC.

The partnership has created 774 childcare places within the two towns through the initiation of 39 clubs.

It has also been able to secure funding towards the cost of more than 30 NVQ courses in playwork.

Barnaby Wharton-Jones, owner of Tend Early Yours and joint chairman of BABOOSCA, has been elected to the national executive of Kids Clubs' Network, a national lobbying organisation for out of school childcare.
