STAN Ternent today warned brave Bury to keep their feet on the ground.

Saturday's glory day victory at Manchester City which ended a 12-week run without a win transformed the Gigg Lane mood from depression to optimism.

But the Shakers boss stressed it will count for nothing unless it is followed up with more of the same, starting against fellow relegation-haunted Stoke City at home tonight.

"Saturday is gone now and we have to look to the future," he declared.

"We need another seven wins for us to stay up. It's a tall order but I know we can do it."

Ternent will tonight send out the same side which beat City in the club's most memorable away day for years.

While Bury's band of bargain signings bid to take another step towards their survival dream, Stoke will unveil £500,000 recruit Kyle Lightbourne whose arrival in the Potteries yesterday sums up the gulf in spending power against which Bury have to compete.

The Shakers entire team cost only slightly more than the quicksilver striker but, as City's £7million team discovered, reputations count for little against Bury.

And Ternent believes that the extra confidence injected by their first win in 17 matches could prove an important factor.

He added: "When you go so long without a win and without getting a break you might sometimes wonder where the next win is coming from.

"But I am hopeful that Saturday's three points will be helpful to everyone.

"Now we need to follow it up against Stoke in the first of 15 cup finals for us. They are also at the wrong end of the table and a win for us will put us level o points with them.

"We don't want any slip-ups now after Saturday's victory."
