A DECISION is expected in the next fortnight on the final resting place of the former Royal Yacht Britannia.
Peel Holdings is hoping to bring the famous old vessel to the Manchester Ship Canal at Trafford - not far from the giant Trafford Centre due to be opened in September.
But there is competition from an Edinburgh-based group which hopes to secure Government permission for Britannia to see out its days in Leith.
Mr Anthony Goldstone, the North West Tourist Board Chairman, is excited at the thought of the decision going in favour of the region.
He said: "We will be delighted if the Royal Yacht comes to Manchester as it will mean increased tourism spend and more jobs.
"The NWTB estimates that it could mean an extra 70 to 100 jobs with between £2 million and £4 million extra economic revenue."
