Wanderers Reserves returned to action for the first time this year with a 1-1 draw at Grimsby Town last night.

Both goals came in the second half of a competitive match between two strong sides.

Dean Holdsworth came through a 75 minute run out to confirm his fitness but it was a mixed night for Alan Thompson who returned after suspension.

He received a yellow card for a late challenge in the 71st minute - eight minutes before he smashed home Wanderers' equaliser.

Peter Beardsley was fouled on the edge of the penalty area and Thompson stepped up to blast a spectacular shot through the defensive wall and into the net.

Both sides had gone close to breaking the deadlock during the first half with Jack Lester hitting the woodwork for the home side in the third minute.

Part of the pitch caused some concern due to frost but the referee decided to continue the game after a lengthy inspection at half time.

Grimsby took the lead in the 54th minute with a 20-yard shot from Kingsley Black but Bolton struck back and almost secured maximum points. In the last minute a left foot strike from Thompson was just off target with the home keeper well beaten.
