CAR park bosses are fuming after claiming a blocked road has slashed their takings by two-thirds.

Attendants at the Crown Street Euro Car Park, say the problem has come because drivers just can't get on to the land.

It comes after part of Bridge Street and all of Bow Street were closed this week while work continues on the multi-storey building.

Cars are being diverted down Bark Street East and All Saints Street but angry drivers claim there are no diversion signs leading them to the Crown Street car park.

A Euro Car Park spokesman said: "It's been like this since Monday and we've lost a lot of custom. Our takings are down by two-thirds.

"We had no notice of this and nearly everyone who has come on here has complained.

"I've been told that the road will be clear by 5pm tonight but that's just too late for us again."

The few drivers that made it on to the car park this morning were fuming about the blockage.

Many of the exasperated commuters had to perform illegal driving manouevres to get on to the car park.

Karen Lightfoot, regional manager of the town's Thomas Cook branch, said: "Considering that the road has been closed there should be adequate diversion signs but that just isn't the case.

"It's all very confusing and in order to get on here I've had to double back on myself."

A Town Hall spokesman said: "The work has been more complicated than we thought and we are now resurfacing the road. The work will be finished in a week. We will investigate the complaint about the diversion causing problems for entry onto the Crown Stret Car Park."
