A MAN who got hot under the collar when he was denied his mustard at a McDonald's has been told by the firm it was all a misunderstanding.

Ian Spence, who had just bought a Big Mac at the Knowsley Street fast food centre in Bolton, says he was angered by the 'sauce' of an assistant who told him portions of mustard were only being given with nuggets. Ian, of Longden Street, Heaton, said he even offered to pay for the accompaniment, but was told that was not possible.

He wrote to the BEN to protest: "So this is how Ronald McDonald is able to open so many shops and why he is a billionaire."

However, on hearing of Ian's plight, a spokesman for the company relished the chance to put his mind at rest. He explained: "I can only think that there has been some sort of misunderstanding.

"It is certainly not McDonald's policy to only provide mustard with nuggets.

"It is, however, our policy to always meet the needs of our customers. A customer can have any of our sauces with any meal he or she wants.

"This was obviously not the case in this instance and I can only apologise."
