SIR: It is good to see Bolton Council encouraging the public to cycle and to get out of cars. But the proper place for cyclists is on the road and, when dark, with front and rear lights, and not on the pavement. The pavements are for pedestrians. Having had many narrow escapes from cyclists using the pavements, I welcome the news of a £40 instant fine for such cyclists.
As Alwyn Graham said recently in the BEN - let's see if the fines are enforced and not just hot air. I, too, hope they are enforced.
It is to be hoped the scheme for fining cyclists who offend is more successful than the supposed enforcement for dog pollution.
