CRUEL thieves have left a family hopping mad by stealing the children's pet rabbit and home-made hutch.

The crooks broke into the back garden of the house on Seddon Street, Little Lever, between 4pm on Saturday and 1pm on Sunday.

Mrs Joy Hurst went to feed her grandchildren's pet when she discovered it missing. She explained: "My daughter and her children have moved to Scotland, and the family is looking after the house for them.

"The rabbit was my responsibility while they were away. Once settled they were going to come back for the rabbit.

"Now, I haven't the heart to tell my grandchildren what has happened. They will be heartbroken.

"I am so very angry that anyone has been cruel enough to have stolen a family pet."

The rabbit, which is brown, is named Murphy. The hutch, which was made by the children's grandfather, is large and a distinctive white with a blue top.

The theft was reported to Bolton police and anyone who knows the whereabouts of the rabbit should contact them on 0161 872 5050 or Mrs Hurst on 400341.
