LOCAL troops who will be stuck in Bosnia on Valentine's Day have sent messages of love to their partners, thanks to the Bolton Evening News.

Soldiers serving in the NATO led Stabilisation Force (SFOR) face February 14 thousands of miles away from their loved ones.

But they have been able to fire cupid's arrow with personal messages through the pages of the BEN.

Sapper Saul Whittall has sent a Valentine to his Bolton based girlfriend Rachel Partington.

Saul, aged 26, from Denton who is serving in the Royal Engineers, said: "As Valentine's Day is going to be three weeks late this year I'll make it three times better, love Saul."

And private Anne-Marie Whitehead has sent a message to her husband Michael back home in Horwich.

Anne-Marie, aged 24, who is serving with the 3rd tank transporter squadron, RLC.

Her Valentine said: "Thinking of you everyday even though I'm far away. I'll be home soon from sunny Bosnia, love always Ammy."
