SIR: I was most intrigued, to read in Cllr Peter Johnston's letter, that he was reasonably sure the planners would give their professional recommendation to approve the planning application for the Old Hall Street, Kearsley, site.

A previous planning application for this site, submitted by the same site finders 'Morbaine' some four years ago, was rejected because of traffic congestion on the stretch of road between Kearsley roundabout, and Longcauseway. Since then, this problem has intensified. In my humble lay opinion, as a chesty resident, the proposals contained in the recent plans would exacerbate, rather than address, traffic problems.

Why should Morbaine, the true financial beneficiaries, waste public money by resubmitting plans that have been turned down previously on weighty environmental grounds? I have written to Dr Iddon MP on this matter, and have received the courtesy of a prompt and sympathetic reply. Letters to the three Kearsley councillors have as yet gone unanswered. I should be interested to know their views!
