CROSSING the footbridge to Trinity-st. station becomes more and more a tortuous, and even hazardous, journey as the number of small boys, intent on collecting engine numbers, increases. Last evening, anyone hurrying to catch a particular bus or train would certainly have missed it, for the crowd of boys not only lined each side of the bridge, but dashed from one side to the other, irrespective of anyone they might thereby delay, as trains came thundering under the bridge to draw up at the station.

WINTER has at last come upon us with exceptional severity. A sharp frost, with a gale from the east, such as we have had for some days, forms about the most trying weather ordeal we have had to undergo. It is, however, just in time to check the precocious advances of vegetation, without doing the serious damage which must have ensued had the mild weather continued much longer, and then been succeeded by such withering blasts. On Sunday a slight fall of snow took place in Bolton, which has, however, only to a slight extent mitigated the severe cold. The same day London was visited by s a snowstorm somewhat heavier than has been experienced there for many years. From four o'clock in the morning until eight at night the downfall was almost continuous. The omnibuses and tramway cars were obliged to cease running before noon, and by evening not a vehicle of any kind and very few foot passengers were to be seen in the streets.
