ST THOMAS of Canterbury Roman Catholic Primary School has been highly praised in the latest OFSTED report.

Headteacher Peter Dempsey is at pains to point out that a team effort brought about the school's success.

We are sure that must be so. The OFSTED report highlights the way that the school encourages parents to be full partners in the education of pupils. This contributes strongly to the children's academic achievements.

Thankfully, the days when headteachers were autocrats who ignored the views of parents are long gone. The trouble is that not all parents are as caring and involved as those at Mr Dempsey's school.
