THERE will be a strong Bolton presence when Vigil 98, an evening of music prayer and silence, is staged at Manchester Cathedral this Saturday.

The New English Orchestra will be playing under the baton of their Artistic Director and Principal Conductor, Nigel Swinford, who lives at Bromley Cross. The NEO are a collection of very talented musicians drawn from leading orchestras.

And the United Christian Singers, including members from Bolton, will be taking part, as they did last at last year's Vigil.

The Vigil tours have been a regular feature of the NEO's work in recent years. The tours began at St Peter's Salzburg in August 1993. Since then there have been three Vigil tours of English cathedrals .

The evening provides a sequence of music, prayer and silence and provides a focal point for every who is concerned about the future of the nation.

Although the music is built around the great Christian themes, people of all religions, or no religion, are welcome. The music includes Parry's I was glad and Vivaldi's Gloria.

Vigil 98 in Manchester Cathedral starts at 7.30 pm.
