SIR: Regarding the recent letter by 'Disgruntled, disabled person' on Mr Blair targeting the poor and not the rich.

I agree with the person concerned on the proposals by the Government for slashing benefits to the disabled etc. But what about the thousands of ordinary people who are not rich, but are also not poor?

A relative of mine, aged 75, has recently had a slight stroke and has had to go into a nursing home. It is costing this person £340 per week, and her son has been told that, once her savings come down to a certain level, her house has to be sold and then the money from this will also be taken from her as long as she lives, until that money also comes down to a level.

Does 'Disgruntled' agree with this system? Because a person has saved up through their lives for when they retire and because they have become aged, their savings are taken away from them. When is the Labour government going to stop this hypocrisy in our society? Come on, Mr Crausby, stand up and be counted.

Also disgruntled.
