COLIN Todd switched attention from Wanderers' current Premiership problems when he invested in the future today.

The Reebok boss ended a two-month chase to snap up highly-rated Finland keeper Jussi Jaaskelainen.

The Under 21 international will cost an initial £100,000 with the fee eventually rising to £350,000.

"He's one for the future," Todd explained. "I saw him playing for the Under 21s and he was very impressive. I followed it up immediately but things got held up.

"When I got wind of him being on trial and possibly signing for another English club I moved in quickly. You can't let people of his quality pass you by."

Jaaskelainen, 21, impressed during a short trial with Norwich City, where he was allowed by Finland club VSP to play in a reserve game. Canaries boss Mike Walker was interested in signing him but Todd's long-standing interest paid off.

"It's no reflection at all on Keith Branagan," the manager explained, "but every club needs three keepers.

"I've got Keith and Gavin Ward and with Matt Glennon still some way off, I felt it was important to bring in another quality keeper.

"He's an insurance policy for the present and a potential, who will serve us well in the future.

"It's all part of the rebuilding job. I've made a lot of signings recently to strengthen the squad for the Premiership - and I'm still looking - but you have to keep strengthening for the future as well. That doesn't stop."
