SHEFFIELD United have dropped their interest in Bury striker David Johnson.
The Blades were linked with a £1.5million bid for the quicksilver Shakers front man at the weekend.
A Bramall Lane spokesman confirmed they have been monitoring the 21-year-old who has hit six goals in an impressive spell of early season form but declared they would be taking their interest no further.
"He is one of a hundred players we have been looking at," he said. "But there is nothing in the speculation that we are considering making an offer."
United's first team squad is already top heavy with strikers with Brazilian Marcello due to become the sixth in a £400,000 deal.
