electric blankets How To Use A Blanket Safely
Check that the blanket conforms to British Standard BS 3456 and has 'overheat' protection.
Always switch off an underblanket and unplug it before getting into bed.
If you have an overblanket check that it may be safely left switched on overnight.
Always follow the manufacturers instructions especially those regarding maintenance and storage. Maintaining Your Blanket
Prior to using the blanket:
Check that wires inside the blanket are not twisted and knotted by feeling along the wires. If in doubt do not use and have it checked.
Check the plug wiring is not loose.
Check there is an approved plug fitted with a 3 amp fuse.
Check that neon light is working on blanket heat control (if fitted).
Where tie tapes are fitted to a blanket ensure that they are securely fastened to the mattress according to the manufacturers instructions.
Ensure your blanket does not show signs of wear or scorch marks - if it does stop using it and have it checked out.
Ensure your blanket is serviced by the manufacturer at least every 2/3 years.
