BOLTON is set to bid for a top European development award.
Council bosses have put the town forward for the title of European Sustainable City.
The awards, launched last year, aim to encourage local authorities to look long-term at action plans for sustainable developments.
A council spokesman said: "In recognition of Bolton's progress in promoting and implementing Sustainable Development we have submitted an application for this prestigious award."
Last year Leicester was the only local authority in the country to gain the award.
Certificates of Distinction are also presented to applicants who have achieved progress towards sustainable development but don't qualify for the award.
The ceremony will be held on November 24 in Brussels Town Hall.
All the applicants will be invited.
