SIR: The Conservative leader's insensitive attack on Tony Blair recently was totally uncalled for.

The death of Diana, Princess of Wales, was internationally mourned. The Tories were well and truly vanquished in the latest General Election and Mr Blair did not need to make political points from such a saddening occasion that shook the civilised world.

Some time ago a Guinness Book (which listed great female achievers) in subjects like literature, medicine, music, exploration, war and religious social reforms applauded the universal benefits brought by Yugoslavian nun Mother Theresa.

No doubt Diana, the Princess of Wales, will be fittingly written about in the future! She was a radiant and caring "people's princess" indeed. A beautiful princess, who befriended the goodly mother.

Mr K Lucas,
