SCHOOL children in Leigh were today asked to turn their thoughts to rugby and help come up with a club mascot for the Leigh Centurions.

In association with the Wigan division of the Greater Manchester Police and Leigh RLFC, the "design a mascot competition" hopes to attract more younger people to the games.

The competition is open to three age groups: five to eight years, nine to 12 years, and 13 to 16 years.

The mascot could be an animal or a character and would need a name.

Once chosen, it will be used by police in the Leigh and District area to promote citizenship and crime prevention initiatives, as well as rugby league.

All entrants will get a free ticket to a home game and there will be a special prize for the best entry in each age group.

The closing date for the competition is October 20 and all entries must be returned to: Kath Bromilow, Community Development Officer, Wigan Police Station, Harrogate Street, Wigan, WN1 1DX.
