MEMBERS of a Westhoughton gym are putting in some extra hours to ensure they're fit for a gruelling charity challenge later this month.

At least six teams, consisting of a total of 30 people, from The Gymnasia, will be tackling the Krypton Challenge assault course at Holcombe Brook on Sunday, July 27, along with more than 200 teams from all over the North West.

The Westhoughton team is hoping to raise more than £1,000 for the Royal National Institute for the Blind to provide holidays for blind and partially-sighted children.

Assistant manager and senior instructor at The Gymnasia, Chris Harris, who is taking part in the event, said that members were not exactly sure what was involved but realised that it was going to be tough and they had all been training a bit harder recently.

"We know that it's not supposed to be easy and it will put our strength and endurance to the test," said Chris.

The ages of the team members taking part in the challenge range from 17 to 43. Anyone who would like to sponsor the teams can contact Chris at The Gymnasia on 01942 840982.
