GOLDEN wedding couple Arthur and Hilda Davies put on the style when they attended Buckingham Palace to join in the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh's own celebrations.

The couple, of Sutton Road, Deane, were treated to a chauffeur driven journey to and from the palace by Mr Davies' former bosses at Elton Vehicle Contract in Bury.

And the pair, who were married on April 2, 1947, at All Souls Church, Astley Bridge, said the kind gesture was the "icing on the cake" for their fabulous day at the palace.

Mr Davies, 76, said: "It was marvellous. We had a tour of the palace before the garden party and we were so close to the Queen that we could have touched her.

"The day was made extra special because we were chauffeur driven all the way to the palace."

The couple, who were among 4,000 couples chosen from a draw to travel to Buckingham Palace for the Queen's golden wedding party, have one daughter and one grandson.

Mr Davies added: "It really was a fantastic day. Something we will never forget."
