BRANDY, the wander-horse who went AWOL and plunged through a bridge at Harwood, has made a full recovery from his ordeal. As reported in the BEN, the 25-year-old horse had to be hauled free by firemen when an old timber bridge near his field collapsed under his weight.

His owner Alison Jones, of Duxbury Avenue, Harwood said Brandy was well known in the area as "an escape artist" with an insatiable wanderlust.

On the day of the drama, he managed to unfasten the gate to his field at Riding Gate, Harwood and tried to cross a decayed footbridge.

Alison praised the fire crew who battled for over an hour to free Brandy and finally had to chop the bridge away to drag him free with a harness. She also thanked a local girl called Zoe who raised the alarm.

She said: "He was pulled to safety in the nick of time. He had been trapped for many hours and was weakening rapidly. Time was running out."

She added: "I just hope his curiosity that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence will have disappeared after his ordeal."
