FORMER Bolton MP Ann Taylor has launched a new Internet site providing independent drugs information.

Mrs Taylor, President of the Council and chairman of the cabinet sub-committee on drug misuse, launched the Website at the British Phonographic Industry headquarters in London. The website was set up by the drug charity, The Institute for the Study of Drug Dependence.

Mrs Taylor said: "Independent, up to date and reliable information is vital for those working in the drugs field. "This new site means that local Drug Action Teams, policy makers and practitioners - as well as members of the public - can access a comprehensive library of drug information on the Internet.

"This immediate form of communication can be particularly effective in an area where trends in drug misuse can change quickly and the focus of our efforts needs to shift accordingly.

"I welcome this initiative and I shall keep a close interest in its future progress."
