PUB landlords are warning colleagues in other areas to beware of a salesman offering "too-good-to be-true" satellite TV deals. A spokesman for Tyldesley Pub Watch scheme said a man has been offering equipment which he claims is capable of receiving live Premiership matches beamed from Norway - in return for payments of up to £300. But when the publicans tried to receive the signals, the equipment has not worked.

When news spread angry publicans confronted the man when he turned up at a pub to clinch another deal.

He claimed the equipment would not be in operation until September after the start of the football season.

A spokesman for Pubwatch said: "He changed his tune because first he was saying we would be able to get the pre-season friendlies like Manchester United's tour of the Far East. He also said we would be able to get all Bolton's matches or all United's matches but I've since been told that can't be done."

The landlords took the man's details which were handedto the police and he promised not to operate in the Tyldesley area until September when the facility is due to start.

The Pubwatch spokesman said: "He said he was going to move on to another area so we just wanted to warn people to take care because I think people are being ripped off.

"He knows what he is doing because he was adamant he wouldn't give anyone their money back and he said it was up to people to take him to court."
