DETECTIVES are investigating the death of a man thought to have suffocated in his bed at a Bolton nursing home.

Raymond Booth, aged 55, was found dead by staff at the Mill View Nursing Home in Bridgeman Street.

The tragic death is one of two investigated by police in the Bolton area over the weekend.

Police were called to the Mill View Nursing Home shortly after 2am on Saturday.

A doctor was at the scene but Mr Booth was found to be dead.

A post mortem examination will be carried out tomorrow.

No one was available to comment at the nursing home earlier today.

In a separate incident, a man with a history of depression was found dead with a plastic bag over his head.

John Blackburn, aged 47, of Grosvenor Street, Kearsley, was discovered dead after his brother forced his way into the man's locked bedroom last night.

Three days ago the dead man is understood to have checked himself into the Royal Bolton Hospital as a voluntary patient. He was found dead after being released.

A file on the death is being prepared for the Coroner.
