DUNSCAR residents are only £2,204 away from having a new woodland on their doorstep.

The money for the 15-acre site off the A666 Blackburn Road needs to be raised by Aug 15.

The Woodland Trust hopes to buy the site to create a new woodland offering a new, free public amenity "for generations to come."

Their fund-raising appeal in support of the project was launched last Monday at Eagley Sports Complex at Dunscar Bridge.

The Dunscar project was kick-started by grants from the Red Rose Forest and the Millenium Commission.

It is part of the Woodland Trust's national scheme to create 200 new community woods throughout Britain.
