TWO remarkable runs in the space of four days elevated 14-year-old Alex McVey to new heights.

His debut fell race saw him finish first junior and ninth overall in the Cowpe Fair Race at Rossendale.

Four days later, he surpassed the achievement in The Aggies Staircase Fell Race run over four miles at Darwen.

A last minute rush of entrants, which swelled the field to over 250, meant a late start to the race which involved three steep climbs in an ascent of over 900 feet.

Unperturbed, the young Bolton athlete showed great determination and will power to finish a superb 12th overall.

The race, which was dominated by Horwich athletes, was won by Graham Schofield in 28.38.

Alex's time of 31.01 was over a minute faster than his dad's, Steve, who finished in the mid-20s.
