A RADCLIFFE family had a lucky escape after firebugs threw a petrol bomb at their house early today.

Neighbours woke the couple and their new born baby at 3am after the petrol bomb landed on their Rover car parked outside their Holland Street home.

Fire fighters from the Bury station put out the blaze which caused slight damage to the P-registered car.

A spokesman for Bury fire station said: "The petrol was in a milk bottle and landed on the car. But luckily it rolled away.

"It looked like it had been thrown at the house but the car took the brunt of it. The incident could have been disastrous especially as the couple have a newborn baby and were fast asleep.

"Luckily neighbours woke them up and no-one was injured.

"It looks like it could have been a random attack."

Police are investigating.
