DRINKERS at a town centre pub don't have to wait for a change in the law to guarantee a full pint in their glass.

The Dog and Partridge is one step ahead of government plans to force all pubs to disregard the head of froth and serve a full measure of liquid.

While plans get underway in Parliament for a Private Members Bill to force a change in the rules, Angus Crompton is already promising all his pints measure up at the Manor Street pub.

Keen Bolton Campaign For Real Ale (CAMRA) member Angus has taken over as tenant at the Dog and Partridge and his first move was to bring in lined glasses so customers can clearly see they're getting a full pint of liquid from bar staff.

Angus said: "We didn't see the point in waiting for the law to force a change, we believe in serving up an honest full pint."

Various North West MP's including Leigh's Lawrence Cunliffe have backed the Private Members Bill which calls for a change to the Weights and Measures (Beer and Cider) Bill.

Consumer Affairs minister Nigel Griffiths has pledged support for the changes.

With the backing of Bolton CAMRA, Angus is concentrating on the quantity and quality of the beer at the pub.

He is also offering 'happy hour' prices of £1 per pint of Thwaites' bitter during the pub's two lunchtime opening session on Friday and Saturday. No food is served but customers are welcome to bring their own snacks in.

The pub is also open every night from 7pm.
