BOLTON'S Mayor is looking for energetic local people who want to pit themselves against the country's most famous assault course - to raise charity cash.

Cllr Peter Birch wants teams of four to take part in a sponsored charity fund-raiser at the Krypton Factor Assault Course at Holcombe Brook on Sunday, August 10.

The last time the Mayor of Bolton organised this enjoyable competition two years ago over 70 teams took part, raising thousands of pounds for the Mayor's Charity.

This year, the British Diabetic Association will benefit - the Mayor is a diabetic - and towards research into Lupus, a form of arthritis from which the Mayoress, Mrs Glynis Birch, suffers.

But the Mayor is hoping for a memorable day at the course for all sorts of reasons. "It's going to be a fun day," he explained. "Not only are we offering people a chance to take up the challenge on the course, but we'd like to make it an enjoyable day out for all the family."

There will be bouncy castles, activity areas and entertainment for children, with clay pigeon shooting for adults, and refreshments available.

The Mayor passed on his special thanks for their help with the event to the 209 the Manchester Artillery Battery RA (V), which is the sister battery to the 216 Bolton Artillery Battery RA (V.) And he also thanked the Bolton Evening News, which is sponsoring the event.

Local companies, offices, clubs, pubs and groups of friends are being asked to form teams of four to take part.

They find their own sponsorship, with 75 per cent going to the Mayor's Charity and the Army Benevolent Fund and the remaining 25 per cent to a charity of the individual team's choice.

Team categories will be: ladies, mixed, men's, veterans (over 40s), youth teams (18-21, or 16 with parents' permission.) And prizes will be awarded at a special presentation evening on August 22 at the Bolton Moat House Hotel.

More details about the event can be obtained from Sally Heyes at the Mayor's Office on 01204-522311, ext 1090. Teams wanting sponsorship forms should contact Lynne Reilly, Public Relations, Room 208, Town Hall, Bolton BL1 1RU, tel. 01204-522311, ext 1013.
