A MEETING of the inhabitants of Westhoughton was held at the Town's Offices on Tuesday evening, for the purpose of adopting the best means of rendering assistance to Mr George Hunt for the loss sustained by him at the recent shocking gunpowder explosion at Westhoughton. The Vicar in his opening remarks expressed his great sympathy with the sad bereavement and loss sustained by Mr Hunt, and a vote of condolence was passed by the meeting. A statement was then made to the effect that the pecuniary loss resulting from the unfortunate occurrence, in the destruction of stock and furniture, would exceed £200. The following resolution was unanimously adopted: 'That a subscription list be opened, and that books be provided and subscriptions received by all present'.
