SIR: I must wholeheartedly agree with the view of Mrs McAllion (BEN June 6) concerning Bolton West's new MP Ruth Kelly's apparent preoccupation with a creche in Parliament. Since she was elected the only articles I have noticed in your paper concerning her have concerned her demand for a creche. And in the meanwhile 90 people in a Horwich textile company are being made redundant due to a European directive on untreated cloth.

So the question must be asked: What is preoccupying Mrs Kelly's mind? Quite rightly, the welfare of her newborn child, leaving I believe constituents' problems way down the list. As anyone who has had a child for the first time will agree you are completely oblivious to all other things bar the child.

So I can come to no other conclusion that Mrs Kelly MP should have thought twice about standing for parliament when so heavily pregnant, something that the Labour party disguised in their election leaflets I believe. And she should consider her position as an MP and allow someone who can devout their time to their constituents.
