WIGAN skipper Andy Farrell will be fit for the clash against Brisbane Broncos on Monday.

The Warriors influential loose-forward had to leave the game against Canterbury half way through the second-half with what appeared a hamstring injury.

That could have ended his involvement in the World Club Championship, but the good news today is that Farrell had a knee in the back of his thigh and suffered nothing more than bruising.

Coach Eric Hughes said: "Like so many other people we feared a hamstring but it was a knee in the back of the leg. He is so much better today and he will be fit for the Broncos game.

The Warriors became the only European side to win an opening round of the World Club Championship, fending off a late fightback to beat the Bulldogs 22-18.

Hughes added: "The lads are all wiped out with the effort - they gave their all. The victory is even better the day after, we can really savour it."

The Warriors, also boosted by the news that prop Terry O'Connor will be fit for the next game, need to be more disciplined after referee Graham Annesley gave Canterbury eight penalties to just one to Wigan.

But Hughes was very diplomatic. "I don't want to say anything that might have me accused of being a whinging Pom," he said with a trace of a smile playing on his lips.

"We're not complaining. We need to sit down and have a look at the videos. And if we're doing something wrong, we must work on taking this out of our play. We've come out here to do three massive jobs the first is over, but two more remain.

"We couldn't have picked three tougher opponents if we had tried. But that brings out the best in the lads as Australia and the world saw last night."
