DINERS at a Westhoughton restaurant could not believe the bare cheek of two men who burst in last night ... naked!

But quick thinking staff at Chequers on Manchester Road spared their blushes by covering them with two large tablecloths.

Paul Ogden, from Fairhurst Street, and Bill Barnes licensee of the Railway Hotel, both of Leigh, had been part of a group celebrating Paul's weekend stag party in Blackpool.

They were dumped naked at junction 5 on the M61 at Westhoughton and walked the quarter of a mile to the restaurant on the busy roundabout at Chequerbent.

"We had a feeling they were going to do something", said Paul, "but we expected it in Preston, so it wasn't so bad four miles from home.

"I would like to thank the staff of the restaurant for providing the tablecloths and to apologise for interrupting people's meal. They didn't seem very pleased." Chequers owner, Pamela Lee, telephoned for a taxi and Paul, who will marry Victoria Kearsley on April 18, and Bill his best man were reunited with the rest of the group .

A stunned Mrs Lee said: "I was very annoyed because we had children in the restaurant, so it was just a matter of getting them covered up. I was appalled at the time.

"I then thought it was a stunt and expected Jeremy Beadle to walked in," added Mrs Lee.

Police, who had been alerted by motorists who had seen the naked men, arrived at the restaurant but decided not to take action, after hearing the naked truth.

Victoria, said she knew something would happen but was relieved his head was not shaved when he finally got home.

It wasn't the first time that diners at the Chequers had suffered at the hands of men behaving badly.

Almost a year ago five men strolled in on Mother's Day with only strategically placed hats to cover their embarrassment after a stag party.

"It must be something to do with our location and we can well do without it," said Mrs Lee.
